BOSTON — Boston police officers on patrol in Dorchester early Sunday thwarted a break-in at a local business, arresting a suspect and recovering a haul of stolen goods.
At about 2:15 a.m., officers from District C-11 were alerted by an audible alarm at 338 Washington St. They found the storefront’s steel grates raised and a masked individual emerging with a crowbar and a fabric bag.
The suspect, later identified as 63-year-old Jose Torres of Boston, was spotted near 306 Washington St. following a description broadcast to officers.
Upon stopping Torres, officers found a crowbar and a fabric sheet containing numerous tobacco products, including cigarette cartons and rolling papers.
Torres was taken into custody and is slated to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony, possession of a burglarious instrument, and malicious destruction of property over $1,200.
