RYEGATE — An 80-year-old man sustained minor injuries after his vehicle veered off US Route 302 and struck a tree on July 9.

Alan Massey of Groton was traveling west when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel around 2:49 p.m. His 2017 Toyota Prius was totaled in the accident.

Vermont State Police reported clear and dry road conditions at the time of the crash.

Massey was wearing his seatbelt, which may have contributed to the minor nature of his injuries.

Authorities confirmed that Massey did not require hospitalization.

Neither speed nor impairment are considered to be contributing factors in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
