TEWKSBURY — Chief Ryan Columbus announced Saturday that a Marlborough woman has been charged with her third offense of operating under the influence following a series of collisions in Tewksbury.
Susan Kapopoulos, 58, is facing multiple charges including third-offense operating under the influence of liquor, marked lanes violation, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, speeding, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to wear a seatbelt, leaving the scene of personal injury, leaving the scene of property damage, assault and battery on ambulance personnel, and possession of a Class B substance.
The incidents unfolded on Thursday, July 11, at about 6:24 p.m., when Tewksbury police were dispatched to a reported crash at 10 Clark Road.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a Honda CRV that had collided with a tree and a fence.
The driver, identified as Kapopoulos, was initially found unconscious without a seatbelt and exhibiting a strong odor of alcohol.
Kapopoulos regained consciousness and subsequently punched a firefighter at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that her vehicle was also involved in a collision with another car approximately 500 feet away, resulting in injuries to a passenger in the second vehicle.
Two open alcohol bottles were found in Kapopoulos’s vehicle.
Following the incident, she was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Kapopoulos was arraigned on Friday in Lowell District Court.
She was released on her own recognizance with the condition that she abstains from drugs and alcohol.
