Gunfire Holyoke leads to arrest, seizure of drugs and firearms

HOLYOKE — A ShotSpotter activation at 1:47 p.m. on July 11 alerted Holyoke Police to gunfire at 532 High St., where a green Buick was seen with a passenger firing toward Cabot St. Two of five bullets hit the City Hall Annex, damaging windows and the interior.

Officers were able to promptly respond, locate the scene, and identify the vehicle.

The investigation led to the arrest of Hector Rivera in Chicopee, where police found evidence including a 9mm Beretta, 486 bags of heroin, 101 vials of cocaine, $5,831 in cash, and 117 rounds of ammunition.

Rivera, who did not have a firearm permit, faces multiple drug and firearm charges, including possession with intent to distribute and carrying a firearm without a license.

Authorities report that one suspect remains at large, and the investigation is continuing.

The ShotSpotter system’s quick notification was instrumental in the timely apprehension and evidence collection.
