HANSON — A garage fire at a Hanson townhouse was quickly contained Thursday afternoon due to a swift response from local fire departments and the activation of the building’s sprinkler system.
The Regional Old Colony Communications Center received a 911 call just after 4 p.m. reporting the blaze at 902 Main St, Unit 20.
Hanson Fire Department personnel, who were first on the scene, encountered heavy smoke billowing from the garage attached to a multi-unit townhouse building.
Hanson Police officers were already assisting a resident to safety.
The early activation of the building’s sprinkler system, along with an aggressive interior assault by the firefighters, allowed the crew to get the fire under control promptly, preventing it from spreading to adjacent units.
A working fire assignment was called, bringing in additional assistance from Pembroke and Whitman engines, an East Bridgewater tower, and a Plympton ambulance.
During the operation, a Halifax engine provided station coverage and responded to a separate fire alarm activation at another multi-unit apartment building.
One resident was assessed on the scene by Plympton ambulance crew members but did not require transport to the hospital.
No injuries were reported among residents or emergency personnel.
The fire crews finished their work and cleared the scene by 6:29 p.m., allowing all residents to safely return to their homes.
The Hanson Fire Department expressed thanks to all the emergency workers for their rapid and effective response, which ensured both the fire’s containment and the safety of the community.
