Thieves target phone deliveries in Hingham

1 min read

HINGHAM — Two recent incidents of phone thefts immediately following delivery are under investigation in Hingham, Massachusetts, police said Tuesday.

The thefts, occurring in May and July, differ from typical package theft cases as they specifically targeted iPhone deliveries, with suspects allegedly stealing the packages moments after they were dropped off.

In one case, the suspect was reportedly dressed as an Amazon driver.

The first incident took place on May 30 at a Bel Air Road residence.

According to police, a FedEx driver delivered an iPhone and AirPods.

Approximately 10 seconds after the FedEx truck departed, an SUV stopped at the house.

Two men, both wearing blue Amazon vests, exited the vehicle.

One man carried an empty box to the front porch and took the two delivered packages, leaving the empty box in their place.

Police described the vehicle as a dark-colored Jeep Patriot with dark rims.

The suspect who took the packages was identified as a Black man wearing an orange T-shirt, gray pants, and Crocs, with a blue Amazon delivery vest over his shirt.

The second theft occurred on July 3 at a Daley Road home.

Five iPhones were delivered by FedEx and stolen minutes later from the front steps.

Police have not released descriptions of the suspects or vehicle involved in this incident.

Hingham police recommend requesting signature-required delivery or opting for in-store pickup for new phone deliveries.

Authorities urge anyone with information about these incidents to contact Det. Heather Hermida or Det. Scott Tracey at 781-741-1443.
