New Hampshire state police warns of scammers posing as troopers

1 min read

CONCORD — The New Hampshire State Police is warning residents about a phone scam involving callers impersonating state troopers and demanding immediate payment to avoid arrest.

Officials say the scammers are using a 603 area code and telling recipients they have an active warrant, requiring payment of a fine or fee through Western Union or gift cards.

The fraudulent callers have used names of actual NHSP employees and locations, and sometimes possess personal information about the call recipient.

Information from public databases, including the New Hampshire Sex Offender Registry, has also been utilized in the scam.

State police emphasize they never solicit payment of fines or fees over the phone.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and not to send money or engage with anyone claiming to be from the New Hampshire State Police requesting payment.

Victims of this scam are encouraged to file a report with their local law enforcement agency.
