Man dies after self-inflicted stabbing in Mansfield home

MANSFIELD — A man died early Tuesday after stabbing himself in a Mansfield home, police said.

The incident began around 3:17 a.m. when the South Eastern Massachusetts Regional 911 Dispatch Center received a call reporting a man threatening suicide inside a residence on Monahan Lane, according to Mansfield Police Chief Ronald A. Sellon Jr.

A woman in the house told dispatchers the man was armed with a knife and actively stabbing himself as officers were en route, Sellon said.

Police arrived within one minute and entered the home, finding the man with serious wounds in the kitchen area.

Officers began life-saving measures until paramedics took over care.

The man was transported to a hospital by Mansfield Fire Department but succumbed to his injuries, according to police.

The Mansfield Police Department Detective Division and Bristol County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident.

Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased.

No other injuries were reported.
