PEACHAM — A 34-year-old man was arrested late Wednesday night after he allegedly assaulted a firefighter and then resisted arrest, Vermont State Police said.

Christopher Costa of Peacham faces multiple charges including assault on a protected profession, criminal threatening, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest after an incident that occurred on Mills Trace Rd.

According to authorities, state troopers were dispatched to a crash scene in Peacham at around 10:34 p.m. on July 10 where firefighters from the Peacham Fire Department reported that Costa had attacked Troy Cochran, a 53-year-old firefighter from Danville, who was working at the active scene.

Following the assault, Costa returned to his residence.

When troopers approached Costa at his home, he became highly aggressive and a brief struggle ensued as officers attempted to detain him.

Costa was eventually handcuffed and taken into custody.

Costa was processed at the Vermont State Police Barracks in St. Johnsbury and later transported to the Northeast Correctional Complex.

He is being held on $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear before the Caledonia County Superior Court – Criminal Division on July 11 at 12:30 p.m.
