NORWALK — A Nathan Hale Middle School guidance counselor was arrested Thursday on charges of second-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor after an investigation into an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student, police said.

Luisa Melchionne, 47, of New Canaan, was taken into custody without incident following the issuance of an arrest warrant, according to the Norwalk Police Department.

The Special Victims Unit began the investigation after receiving a complaint on April 30 about a school employee’s conduct.

The investigation revealed that Melchionne was sexually involved with a male student, leading to her arrest.

Melchionne, who is no longer employed by the Norwalk Public Schools, resides at 560 Cheese Spring Rd. in New Canaan.

Melchionne’s bond was set at $500,000.

She is scheduled to appear in court on July 11.
