NAUGATUCK — A local man was arrested on a slew of charges after he initially fled from police during a traffic stop and later barricaded himself in his home when officers tried to serve an arrest warrant.

Perry Willets, 57, was observed driving near Rubber Avenue and Cherry Street on June 20 when police recognized he had an active warrant for failure to appear in the first degree.

When they attempted to apprehend Willets, he refused to exit his vehicle and sped away.

Further attempts to serve Willets with an arrest warrant at his residence on July 9 led to a standoff as he barricaded himself inside.

Police forcibly entered the home, and Willets surrendered without incident.

Willets now faces charges including reckless endangerment in the first degree, interfering with an officer, failure to show registration/no fault insurance card/license, reckless driving, and disobeying the signal of an officer related to the car stop.

Additionally, he was charged with interfering with an officer related to the warrant service and the original outstanding failure to appear warrant.

Held on a $7,500 surety bond, Willets was arraigned at Waterbury Superior Court on July 10 at 9 a.m.
