1 min read

NORWOOD — A falling tree branch injured several children at Father Mac’s Playground on Tuesday, prompting local officials to conduct additional tree maintenance at the site.

The incident occurred during a regular day camp session run by Norwood Recreation.

Three campers were transported by ambulance to area hospitals with minor injuries, the most severe being an ankle injury.

Norwood Police Department reported that the branch broke off unexpectedly, striking campers in the vicinity.

The exact cause of the branch failure was not immediately clear.

In response to the incident, the Public Works Department announced plans to conduct additional trimming and branch removal at the playground.

This maintenance will go beyond their routine upkeep of the area.

Local authorities described the decision as “an abundance of caution” to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The playground remained closed Tuesday afternoon as officials assessed the site.
