HAMPTON — Two law enforcement officers were injured when their vehicles collided early Friday morning.

At 12:37 a.m. on July 5, New Hampshire State Trooper Clark Brighton and Hampton Police Officer Timothy Vaughan were involved in a crash at the intersection of Route 101 and Landing Road.

Trooper Brighton, from the Troop A barracks, was attempting to catch up to a vehicle driving without headlights when his Dodge Charger collided with Officer Vaughan’s Ford Explorer.

Both officers sustained minor injuries and were evaluated by emergency medical personnel on the scene.

The accident led to a temporary closure of a section of Route 101.

The initial investigation suggests that Trooper Brighton entered the intersection on a green light, while Officer Vaughan was in the process of manually operating and attempting to reset the traffic light sequence after the July 4 festivities at Hampton Beach.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the collision.

Sgt. Matthew Locke is requesting anyone with information to assist in the investigation to contact him at [email protected].

At this time, no additional details have been released.
