MANCHESTER — A local man was arrested after a 2-year-old boy suffered serious injuries while in his care, authorities said Monday.

Ryan Sanchez Montanez, 25, faces charges of felony Second Degree Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child following the incident, which was reported to Manchester Police on July 2.

Officers responded to Elliot Hospital after receiving a report of suspected child abuse.

Medical staff informed the police that the toddler had a head injury and both eyes were swollen.

While the injuries were serious, they were deemed non-life-threatening, and the child was transferred to a Boston hospital for further care.

During the subsequent investigation, police determined the injuries occurred while the child was under the supervision of Sanchez Montanez.

The establishment of probable cause led to his arrest.

Sanchez Montanez is currently on bail and awaiting trial for a separate assault charge from last year, where he was accused of injuring another child under the age of 13.

He has been placed in preventative detention and is scheduled for a court hearing on July 11 at Manchester Circuit Court.
