NEWPORT — Vermont State Police arrested two individuals from Irasburg on suspicion of DUI after a collision at the intersection of Cross Road and VT Route 242 on July 6.

Erin Richards, 39, and her passenger, Matt Logan, 29, both of Irasburg, were involved in a vehicle crash that occurred around 10:06 p.m.

According to the police report, Richards was initially driving when she failed to yield the right of way while turning onto VT Route 242, striking a westbound vehicle described only as a white van with Vermont license plates.

After the collision, both vehicles left the scene.

Richards and Logan were later found by troopers as they traveled along VT Route 242.

Richards displayed signs of impairment and was determined to have been under the influence at the time of the accident.

Logan also showed signs of impairment, and an investigation revealed that he took over driving after the initial crash, subsequently going off the road and hitting a highway sign.

The Subaru Crosstrek driven by Richards sustained minor front-end damage, while the unlocated white van reportedly suffered damage to its rear passenger side.

There were no reported injuries from either party.

Richards and Logan were taken into custody and transported to the Vermont State Police Derby Barracks for processing.

In addition to DUI charges, Richards received a civil violation complaint for failing to stop or yield at an intersection.

Authorities are actively seeking information on the second vehicle and its operator.

Witnesses or those with knowledge of the incident are urged to contact the Vermont State Police Derby Barracks at (802) 334-8881.
