Rutland man arrested on multiple charges including cocaine possession

RUTLAND — Vermont State Police arrested a 58-year-old Rutland man early Monday morning for possession of cocaine and other offenses following a vehicle stop on Columbian Ave.

Eric Stephens was stopped at approximately 1:36 a.m. for a violation when troopers discovered he was driving with a criminally suspended license.

Stephens was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks for processing.

During the stop, troopers observed signs of drug activity and seized Stephens’ vehicle to obtain a search warrant.

However, they received consent to search the vehicle without a warrant, and a subsequent search uncovered a felony amount of cocaine.

Stepholders also violated conditions of release that prohibited him from possessing regulated drugs.

He faces charges including possession of cocaine, driving with a suspended license (DLS), violation of conditions of release, and being a habitual criminal.

Following the charges, Stephens was issued a citation to appear in court and was lodged at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Center on $100,000 bail.
