Haverhill teen drowns at Plug Pond, recovered by dive teams

HAVERHILL — An 18-year-old male was found drowned at Plug Pond after local authorities conducted an extensive search on Monday afternoon.

The Haverhill Police Department reported that they responded to an emergency at the pond at 1:31 p.m. following reports of the young man going into the water and not resurfacing.

Units from the Haverhill Fire Department, Haverhill Harbor Master, State Police, and Beverly Dive Teams were dispatched to aid in the search.

After nearly an hour and a half of efforts, the dive teams recovered the victim approximately 30 feet from the shoreline at around 3:07 p.m.

The identity of the teenager has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Local officials have not provided additional details about the circumstances leading up to the incident.

An investigation into the drowning is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Haverhill Police Department.

The community has been cautioned to exercise safety when engaging in water activities and to be mindful of swimming in unsupervised areas.
