SOUTHINGTON — Two male juveniles were arrested early Friday morning on multiple charges related to vehicle burglaries in Southington, according to the Department of Police Services.
At approximately 5:21 a.m. on July 5, officers responded to reports of active motor vehicle burglaries around Laning Street.
While investigating near the Days Inn Hotel and Kenmore Apartments, officers heard voices behind 48 Laning Street and spotted the suspects committing the burglaries.
When an officer announced his presence, both suspects fled on foot towards Interstate 84.
One suspect was quickly apprehended, and the other was found hiding in a wooded area shortly after.
The second juvenile was discovered with a screwdriver, suspected to be used in the attempted vehicle break-ins.
In total, four vehicles were targeted, with one having its side window smashed.
The juveniles, aged 16 and 17, faced charges including Criminal Attempt/Burglary 3rd and Burglary 3rd, with one also charged with possession of burglar tools and both charged with Interfering with an Officer.
Following their arrest, both were issued juvenile summonses.
Juvenile #1 is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Juvenile Court, and Juvenile #2 in New Haven Juvenile Court, both on July 11.
They were released into the custody of their guardians.
The Department of Police Services is continuing the investigation into these incidents.
