WESTFORD — A man was arrested Thursday afternoon following a report of a court order violation, which escalated into burglary and assault at a local residence.

At approximately 2:55 p.m., Troopers from the Williston Barracks responded to a disturbance at 21 Stewart Hill Road.

Upon arrival, they identified the suspect as 35-year-old John P. Hegarty, from South Burlington.

The investigation showed that Hegarty had unlawfully entered the property and assaulted homeowner Eric Ojala, age 33.

Further inquiries revealed that Hegarty was under an active abuse prevention order, barring him from the residence, which also implicated him in a violation of that order.

Victims of the incident included Ojala and Caitlin Hegarty, age 35, both residents of Westford.

Hegarty was taken into custody without further incident and processed at the Williston Barracks.

He is currently being held at Northwest Correction Facility on no bail due to additional probation and parole conditions.

Charges against Hegarty include burglary, simple assault, and violation of an abuse prevention order.
