Barre senior’s residence catches fire, no injuries reported

BARRE — A fire broke out at the home of an 81-year-old resident early Thursday morning, with emergency services responding to the incident.

At around 7:30 a.m., the Barre Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 113 Hill St. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke and flames emanating from the garage area of Coralee Walters’ home.

The Barre City Fire Chief, after evaluating the scene, reached out to the Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit for assistance in investigating the cause of the blaze.

Investigators from the unit arrived and conducted a thorough examination of the scene.

They concluded that the fire originated in the garage and determined its cause to be an accidental electrical issue.

The fire was successfully extinguished with no reported injuries to occupants, firefighters, or investigators.
