Burlington teen cited for driving 107 mph on Interstate 89

WILLISTON — On July 4, a Burlington teen was cited for driving 42 mph over the speed limit on Interstate 89 near Exit 12.

Vermont State Police conducting speed enforcement operations identified a silver SUV traveling at high speeds.

Radar confirmed the vehicle, driven by 19-year-old Damascene Niyongere, was moving at 107 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Niyongere was stopped without incident and subsequently released on a citation to appear before the Chittenden County Superior Court on charges of Negligent Operation.

Additionally, Niyongere received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint with a waiver amount of $627.00 and an assessment of 2 points against his license.
