At about 12:44 a.m., officers on patrol near Harvard Street and Washington Street observed Mekhi Clagon of Dorchester gripping what they believed to be a firearm inside his sweatshirt.

Officers apprehended Clagon and took him into custody.

The discarded firearm was recovered and identified as a Smith and Wesson SD9 with one round in the chamber and ten rounds in the magazine, equipped with a Lightwin flashlight/laser attachment.

Clagon faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Firearm Violation with one prior violent/drug crime.

He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
