Waterford collision sends multiple people to hospital

WATERFORD — A serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Bloomingdale Road and Old Colchester Road sent several people to the hospital Tuesday evening, authorities said.

The Waterford Police, Fire, and EMS responded to the crash site around 5:49 p.m. after a report of the accident.

Officers from the Patrol Division and Investigative Services Division, along with the Shoreline Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (START), which includes members from Waterford, East Lyme, and Montville Police Departments, were dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 2005 Nissan Altima driven by Christian Jara of New London was heading north on Bloomingdale Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at the Old Colchester Road intersection.

Jara’s vehicle collided with a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe traveling west on Old Colchester Road, operated by Ian Hubbert of Oakdale.

Both drivers and several passengers were taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital with injuries sustained in the collision.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is still underway.
