Two arrested in Boston after firearms recovered during warrant service

BOSTON — Officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested two men on firearm and outstanding warrant offenses Wednesday morning while serving an arrest warrant in the city.

At about 10:06 a.m., officers were executing a warrant at an apartment on 270 Huntington Ave for Chayanne Velazquez, 32, of Dorchester, when they heard movement inside after announcing their presence.

Velazquez and Isiaih Speller, 28, of Boston, were eventually detained following a brief standoff where officers witnessed firearms being discarded from the apartment’s window.

Authorities recovered two black Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm handguns with ejected magazines from the sidewalk and the street below the window.

Velazquez is facing charges out of New Hampshire including Felon in Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Use of a Firearm, and Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell.

In Boston, he was additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd Offense), Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, and Fugitive from Justice.

Speller was arrested on multiple warrants for Violation of Abuse Prevention Order, A&B with a Dangerous Weapon, Resisting Arrest, A&B 209A, and Threats.

He also faces new charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card.

Both men are currently in custody as the investigation continues.
