Solar farm vandalized in Maine, causing extensive damage

NEW GLOUCESTER — Vandals caused several hundred thousand dollars in damage to a solar farm in New Gloucester, using heavy construction equipment to destroy property, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.

The incident occurred between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. on June 30 at the Novel Energy Solutions Solar Farm located at 1288 Lewiston Road, according to authorities.

Deputies responded to the scene at 7:10 a.m. on July 1 after receiving reports of felony criminal mischief.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division were called to investigate due to the extent of the damage.

Initial findings suggest at least two suspects were involved in the vandalism.

The sheriff’s office is seeking public assistance in identifying the suspects.
