COHASSET — A 51-year-old Hingham man was arrested Friday at 11 p.m. following a road rage incident on Route 3A near Sohier Street, according to Cohasset police.

Gregory D. Knowles faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, assault and battery, and witness intimidation after allegedly attacking a 34-year-old South Boston man with a metal expandable police baton.

The victim called 911 to report that he and the driver of a 2006 Jeep were involved in a road rage incident while driving north on Route 3A.

He alleged that the Jeep’s driver stopped in front of him, exited the vehicle with a baton, and began striking him about the head and body before strangling him and fleeing the scene.

Police located Knowles at his Hingham home based on the license plate number provided by the victim.

Officers arrested Knowles and towed his Jeep to the Cohasset Police Headquarters, where they executed a search warrant and recovered the baton from inside the vehicle.

The victim sustained visible injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene.

Knowles is scheduled for arraignment in Quincy District Court on Monday, July 1, 2024.
