NAPLES — A Portland man was sentenced Monday for his role in a shooting on the Naples Causeway during last year’s Independence Day celebrations.

Alexzander Goodwin, 19, pleaded guilty to elevated aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and trafficking in scheduled drugs.

He received an 18-year sentence with all but 5 years suspended for the assault charge and a consecutive 5-year suspended sentence for drug trafficking.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Goodwin will be under supervised probation upon his release.

He is currently confined at the Cumberland County Jail.

The shooting occurred on July 4, 2023, on the Causeway in Naples, a popular spot for holiday gatherings.

Authorities did not provide details about any injuries resulting from the incident.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about gun violence and drug-related crimes in Maine, even in typically quiet tourist areas like Naples.
