WORCESTER — Police arrested a 48-year-old man on drug charges after observing him allegedly distribute crack cocaine in a city park.

Officers monitoring Castle Park on June 29 saw Miguel Martinez remove a white rock-like substance from his side and place it on a stone wall, where he broke it into smaller pieces and distributed them to others, according to police.

As officers approached, the group scattered.

Police said Martinez attempted to conceal the drugs by reaching to the ground.

Upon searching Martinez, officers found a white bag inside his right shoe containing two rock-like substances believed to be crack cocaine, weighing approximately 7-10 grams.

Martinez was charged with possession of a Class B substance and possession with intent to distribute.

The arrest occurred around 2 p.m. on the Alden Street side of the park, an area known for drug activity, police said.
