JERICHO — An 18-year-old from Underhill was pronounced dead after an accident involving a vehicle he was working on in the Mount Mansfield Union High School parking lot Thursday afternoon.

Silas Salyer was found trapped under a car around 4:10 p.m. after the jack supporting the vehicle gave way.

Vermont State Police responded to a 911 call from the scene, where they, along with the Underhill-Jericho Fire Department and DMV officials, attempted to provide immediate aid.

Salyer was swiftly transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington by Essex Rescue where he was later pronounced dead.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Vermont State Police, though it does not appear to be suspicious at this time.

The high school, located at 211 Browns Trace Rd. in Jericho, and the surrounding community have been alerted to the tragedy.

Authorities will release further information as the investigation progresses.
