SOUTH HADLEY — Three men were arrested this week on firearms and drug charges as part of the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office’s Project Safe Neighborhood initiative, a collaborative anti-crime task force involving local and state law enforcement.

Laurie Loisel, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, announced that one Springfield man was apprehended in South Hadley, while two other individuals were taken into custody in Greenfield.

The task force is composed of officers from 13 local police departments, including a member from the South Hadley Police, and three state police members assigned to the DA’s office.

Gov. Maura Healey’s administration has supported the initiative with $93,000 in grant funding.

The allocation is directed to support a district-wide gun buyback program conducted in April and to bolster drug enforcement operations across the region.

The Project Safe Neighborhood initiative focuses on reducing gun and drug crimes through collaborative community and law enforcement partnerships.
