SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Police Department announced the arrest of a local man for the theft of a vehicle from a business parking lot earlier this month.

On the morning of June 10, a vehicle was reported stolen at approximately 4:12 a.m. The owner, using a tracking tag, was able to monitor the vehicle’s locations before it was recovered a few hours later in Claremont, New Hampshire.

Investigation by Springfield Police led to the arrest of 42-year-old Stephen Loewe on June 24 at 5:34 p.m. He is charged with grand larceny and aggravated operating without the owner’s consent.

Loewe is scheduled to appear at the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit on Aug. 6 at 8 a.m.

The Springfield Police Department took the opportunity to remind residents to secure their property to prevent theft and expressed gratitude to the Claremont Police Department for their assistance in the case.

Police also noted that decisions regarding bail and incarceration are determined by the judicial system and not the police department.
