North Haven man arrested in connection with New Haven shooting

NORTH HAVEN — A West Haven man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a shooting in New Haven after police located a suspect vehicle at a local bar and ice cream parlor.

Brian Melendez, 35, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, weapon in a motor vehicle, and carrying a pistol without a permit, according to the North Haven Police Department.

North Haven officers were dispatched to the area of Middletown and Quinnipiac Avenue at approximately 6 p.m. on June 27 to assist the New Haven Police Department in locating a vehicle suspected in a shooting in New Haven.

The vehicle was found on Middletown Avenue at a local bar and ice cream parlor, where several subjects were detained.

During the investigation, probable cause was established for Melendez’s arrest.

Melendez, a convicted felon, was held by North Haven Police on a $350,000 bond and transported to Meriden Superior Court on Wednesday morning for arraignment.

The shooting investigation in New Haven remains active.
