GRANBY — A motorist crashed into a fallen tree on a closed road in Granby late Monday night, hours after severe storms swept through the area, police said.

The single-vehicle accident occurred on Salmon Brook Street, which had been closed due to storm damage.

The driver, who was not injured, bypassed caution tape, road flares and a traffic cone before striking the tree that was blocking the roadway, according to the Granby Police Department.

Officials said the incident delayed the reopening of Salmon Brook Street by several hours.

The road had been expected to reopen by midnight.

As of Tuesday morning, most roads closed during Monday night’s storm had reopened, and power had been restored to many areas.

However, Buttles Road and Shelley Road remained closed to through traffic.

The Granby Department of Public Works and Eversource CT were working to clear roads and restore power throughout the town.

Police urged drivers to exercise caution, drive slowly, and remain vigilant, especially when navigating storm-affected areas with low visibility.
