COLCHESTER — A Colchester Police officer was dragged approximately 50 feet early Wednesday morning after a traffic stop involving a stolen vehicle turned violent.

At about 4:21 a.m., officers responded to a call on Conquest Circle where they discovered two individuals unresponsive inside a dark blue Genesis G80 with Colorado plates.

Upon waking the occupants, it was determined that the car had been reported stolen to the Burlington Police Department.

The driver, identified as 39-year-old Andrew Brace of St. Albans, resisted arrest and accelerated the vehicle in reverse, dragging an officer before fleeing at a high rate of speed.

Brace is currently at large and faces multiple charges including aggravated assault, aggravated operation without owner’s consent, eluding a police officer, resisting arrest, violation of release conditions, and driving with a suspended license.

The injured officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about Brace’s whereabouts to contact the Colchester Police Department at (802) 264-5555.
