Elderly woman robbed in Connecticut library parking lot

SOUTHBURY — An 80-year-old woman was robbed of her purse in a library parking lot Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The incident occurred around 3:17 p.m. at the Southbury Library on Poverty Road.

According to authorities, the victim was entering her vehicle when a suspect forcibly removed her purse after a brief struggle.

Witnesses reported the suspect fled in a black Cadillac XT5 with Rhode Island license plate 1BR577.

Police later confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from Stonington, Connecticut.

One suspect was described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a black shirt, black shorts and a blue surgical-style face mask.

He was seen exiting the passenger side of the Cadillac before it sped away.

The Southbury Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Officer El-Ayoub at 203-264-5912.

Authorities caution the public not to approach the suspect vehicle if spotted, but to contact police immediately.

Police are reminding residents to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings when entering and exiting vehicles.
