TOPSHAM — A dump truck and a car collided head-on Wednesday morning on Route 196 at the Topsham-Lisbon town line, resulting in one injury and temporary road closure.

The crash occurred at 7:40 a.m. when a 2008 Cadillac SRX heading east crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2020 Western Star dump truck, according to witnesses at the scene.

Thomas Johnson, 52, of Greene, Maine, the dump truck driver, was transported to Central Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Cadillac’s occupants, driver Robert Philpot, 28, of Casco, and passenger Donald Asselin, 64, of Lewiston, declined medical treatment.

The impact caused the dump truck to overturn and leave the roadway, while the Cadillac ended up on its side in the road.

Route 196 was closed for 30 to 45 minutes while crews cleared the vehicles and debris.

Topsham Police, Fire and Rescue, Lisbon Police Department, and Maine State Police responded to the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.
