BETHEL — A 56-year-old Bethel man was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly threatening neighbors with knives and other sharp objects on Store Hill Road.

Donald F. Giovanella faces charges of aggravated disorderly conduct and simple assault following multiple calls to Vermont State Police at 7:54 a.m. reporting a man causing a public disturbance.

Troopers from the Royalton Barracks responded to find Giovanella walking up and down Store Hill Road, carrying knives and asking intimidating questions of neighbors, according to police.

An investigation revealed that Giovanella had placed several residents in fear of harm.

Victims were identified as Rachael Garnjost, 30, Riley Post-Kinney, 29, Amos Post, 41, and Gary Irish, 68, all of Bethel.

Police said the neighborhood community had reported similar incidents of bizarre behavior by Giovanella in the past, though some went unreported.

Giovanella was arrested without incident and transported to Windsor County Superior Court Criminal Division to answer the charges.
