HOLYOKE — A 27-year-old Holyoke man was arrested Monday morning in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month, authorities said.

Brian Gonzalez was taken into custody by a joint law enforcement team including Massachusetts State Police detectives, the Hampden District Attorney’s SAFE Task Force, and Holyoke police officers.

Gonzalez is accused of involvement in the June 1 murder of David Rivera, 31, of Springfield.

According to police, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 400 block of High Street at 2 a.m. on June 1.

They found one adult male with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds who was transported to Baystate Medical Center.

A second victim, later identified as Rivera, was discovered in a parked vehicle near 300 High Street.

Rivera was rushed to Baystate Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries.

Following an investigation, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Gonzalez from Holyoke District Court on murder charges.

Gonzalez was arraigned Monday in Holyoke District Court and is being held without bail.

His next court appearance is scheduled for July 18.

The investigation is ongoing, led by Holyoke police, state police detectives, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.
