Driver flees after crashing car into Lowell pond

LOWELL — Vermont State Police are seeking information after a vehicle crashed into a pond on Vermont Route 100 in Lowell this morning, with the driver fleeing the scene on foot.

At approximately 11:58 a.m., Vermont State Police, Lowell Fire Department, and Orleans EMS responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash near 874 VT Route 100, close to Stephenson Road. Upon arrival, responders found a 1996 Ford Mustang completely submerged in a pond off the roadway.

Investigation revealed that the unknown driver, traveling north on VT Route 100, lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and crashed into the pond. The driver, who was reportedly the sole occupant, managed to exit the vehicle unharmed and fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The Vermont State Police are urging anyone with information that may help identify the driver to contact the Derby Barracks at 802-334-8881.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine the cause of the crash and locate the driver.
