Suspect sought in alleged domestic assault, unlawful restraint in Swanton

SWANTON — Police are searching for a 26-year-old man accused of holding a woman against her will and committing domestic assault on Friday.

Nicholas Hale of St. Albans is wanted on charges of first-degree aggravated domestic assault and unlawful restraint, as well as multiple outstanding arrest warrants, according to the Swanton Village Police Department.

Officers responded around 1:07 p.m. Friday to assist Vermont State Police in locating Hale, who was allegedly holding a 20-year-old woman captive near the Mobil station at the Interstate 89 interchange with Route 78.

Police believe Hale fled on foot in the area of Elm Street and Fourth Street in Swanton.

He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and jeans and is believed to be armed with a firearm.

Authorities warn the public not to approach Hale if spotted, but to contact law enforcement immediately.
