RUTLAND — A 61-year-old man was arrested Sunday after allegedly attempting to steal alcohol from a local grocery store and later assaulting a law enforcement officer, Vermont State Police said.

Robert Horick was taken into custody around 4:30 p.m. after troopers responded to reports of an attempted retail theft at the Grand Union in Rutland City.

Store employees had stopped a man, identified only as “Bob,” with merchandise before he could exit.

The suspect left the store and was later located by troopers on Terrill Street.

Upon investigation, police identified the man as Horick and determined he was violating court-ordered conditions of release.

Troopers transported Horick to the State Police Barracks in Rutland for processing.

During this time, Horick allegedly assaulted a law enforcement officer.

Horick faces charges of violation of conditions of release, disorderly conduct, and assault on a law enforcement officer.

He was subsequently lodged at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Center.
