Springfield man arrested on fugitive warrant, heroin possession charges

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Police Department officers arrested a man on charges of being a fugitive from justice and heroin possession after responding to a disturbance at a local Family Dollar store on June 19.

Officers Callahan, Singleton, and Freeman arrived at the Springfield plaza at approximately 7:20 p.m. following reports of an individual under the influence causing a disturbance and refusing to leave the premises.

The man was identified as Martin R. Gonyea.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Gonyea had an active arrest warrant in Vermont as well as an extraditable warrant from New Hampshire.

He was taken into custody without incident.

A search incident to arrest revealed suspected heroin on Gonyea’s person.

Gonyea was issued a criminal citation to appear in Windsor County Criminal Court on June 20 at 12:30 p.m. to respond to the fugitive from justice charge.

A separate criminal citation was issued for the heroin possession charge, with a court date to be set later.

Following the arrest, Gonyea was lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash or surety bail.
