North Country Hospital awards $12,000 in healthcare scholarships to local students

NEWPORT — North Country Hospital has awarded 12 healthcare scholarships totaling $12,000 to deserving high school seniors from North Country Union High School and Lake Region Union High School. The hospital foundation also renews $1,000 scholarships for consecutive years for students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and continue their healthcare education.

The Healthcare Career Scholarship, funded by the annual North Country Hospital Scholarship Golf Classic, was awarded to seven students. Recipients from Lake Region include Aleigha Bonneau, Julianna Cole, and Brianna Martin. North Country Union High School recipients are Madison Bowman, Brooke Breitmeyer, Kristin Griffin, and Kaya Little.

The Caryl B. Custer Scholarship for Nursing Students was awarded to Shayna Isabelle and Cooper Wheeler from North Country Union High School, and Emma Locke-McAllister from Lake Region Union High School.

Reeve Applegate, a North Country Union graduate, received The Legends Scholarship, while Saige Bennett from Lake Region was awarded the Sidney A. Toll Scholarship.

The scholarship review committee selects recipients based on student essays, transcripts, extra-curricular activities, and financial need. Applicants and their families must reside in the hospital’s service area to be eligible.

The 36th annual North Country Hospital Scholarship Golf Classic, which funds these scholarships, is scheduled for Sunday, July 28, at Orleans Country Club.
