PERU — An 86-year-old woman escaped injury after her vehicle overturned on Hapgood Pond Road near Stone Place Road on June 21.

Marcia Van Dyck of Newtown, Pennsylvania, was traveling north in her 2023 Subaru CrossTrek around 2:35 p.m. when she reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.

According to the Vermont State Police, Van Dyck crossed the centerline and struck a tree off the shoulder, causing her vehicle to roll over.

Despite the cloudy and rainy weather contributing to wet road conditions, Van Dyck, who was wearing her seatbelt, was not injured in the crash that totaled her vehicle.

Troopers from the Shaftsbury barracks, along with the Peru Fire Department and Londonderry Rescue, responded to the scene.

No other injuries were reported.
