ANSON — Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Division carried out a drug search warrant Friday morning, uncovering a significant illegal marijuana cultivation operation in a residence on Horseback Road.
The raid, which took place at about 9:40 a.m., was the result of a month-long investigation into the suspected unlawful cultivation activities at the property.
A team consisting of four detectives, one patrol deputy, a federal DEA agent, a U.S.
Customs & Border Protection agent, and two investigators from the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy executed the warrant.
The operation was also supported by the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office.
Upon entering the property, law enforcement officials found no individuals present.
However, they discovered active marijuana plant cultivation rooms within the main residence, a detached garage, and a barn.
The entire premises were being utilized for the illegal growth and trafficking of marijuana plants.
Authorities seized a total of 1,761 marijuana plants, several pounds of processed marijuana, and documentation related to the illegal drug trade.
Charges pending against the individuals involved include Cultivation of Marijuana (Class B) and Unlawful Trafficking in Scheduled Drugs (Class B).
This incident marks the 20th drug search warrant executed by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Division since mid-January, targeting illegal marijuana cultivation sites throughout Somerset County.
Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the individuals responsible for the operation.
