Hampton police apprehend wanted man, recover stolen firearm

HAMPTON — Authorities successfully captured 22-year-old James R. Dustin on Tuesday morning, ending an intensive overnight search.

Dustin, a Hampton resident, was taken into custody at 10:10 a.m. at 17R Gill Street by NH Probation and Parole officers.

The search for Dustin began late Monday and concluded with his arrest the following day.

The arrest also led to the recovery of a stolen firearm that had been reported missing.

Following his arrest, Dustin was transported to the Hampton Police Department for booking.

He is being held on a probation detainer and is scheduled for arraignment at the 10th Circuit-Hampton District Court on June 19 at 11 a.m.

Dustin is facing three felony counts of Theft by Unauthorized Taking, with additional charges anticipated.

He will also confront separate charges from NH Probation and Parole.

The Hampton Police Department was supported in this operation by the Seacoast Emergency Response Team, the Portsmouth Police Department Drone Unit, and the Hampton Fire Department.

As the investigation continues, the police urge the community to keep vehicles locked and valuables, including firearms, secured.
