Norwalk police arrest suspect in smoke shop burglaries

NORWALK — Norwalk Police Department announced the arrest of an 18-year-old man in connection with a series of smoke shop burglaries earlier this year.

On March 26, Norwalk Combined Dispatch received reports of a commercial burglary at Utopia Smoke Shop on Connecticut Ave. and an attempted commercial burglary at Mohegan Smoke Shop on Westport Ave.

After an extensive investigation that included reviewing video surveillance and collaborating with other law enforcement agencies, the Detective Bureau identified Tyssan Woods as the suspect.

Woods, a resident of 44 Pleasant View Avenue in Waterbury, was arrested by Norwalk Detectives on June 18 after an arrest warrant was issued.

He faces charges of third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief for the incident at Utopia Smoke Shop as well as criminal attempt at third-degree burglary for the attempted break-in at Mohegan Smoke Shop.

The bond for Woods was set at $225,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on June 18.

The Norwalk Police Department continues to investigate the incidents and urges anyone with additional information to come forward.
