New Bedford man arrested on fentanyl trafficking charges

NEW BEDFORD — A local man with a history of drug offenses was arrested Monday on charges of trafficking fentanyl and other drug-related crimes, authorities said.

Narcotics detectives from the New Bedford Police Department took 46-year-old Jose Santiago into custody following an investigation led by Det.

Emily Pacheco into a fentanyl distribution operation at a residence on Reynolds Street.

The search of 113 Reynolds St., first floor, conducted on June 10, yielded over 200 grams of fentanyl, 5 grams of psychedelic mushrooms, digital scales, packaging materials, and $215 in cash, which was seized in connection with the charges.

Santiago is facing charges for trafficking over 200 grams of fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute a class A substance.

His arrest follows a recent guilty plea to drug charges in U.S.

District court and a prior conviction for trafficking heroin.
