NORTH HAVEN — A homeowner’s quick action led to the arrest of a burglary suspect in North Haven on June 12 after he tackled and detained the man accused of stealing his daughter’s bicycle.
At around 7:30 a.m., North Haven Police responded to a call from a Kimberly Circle resident who had apprehended 38-year-old Stephen Morin of Waterbury.
Officials reported that the homeowner had caught Morin shortly after he allegedly took a white and pink Huffy bicycle from the family’s garage.
Witness statements and video evidence confirmed the resident’s account, leading to Morin’s arrest.
He faces charges of third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny.
The North Haven Police Department issued a statement cautioning residents against confronting suspected criminals, highlighting the risks involved.
They also issued a reminder to potential offenders about the hazards of committing theft, especially so close to Father’s Day, playfully referencing “dad strength.”
Authorities expressed relief that the incident was resolved without injury and that the stolen bicycle was returned to its young owner.
