Suspect apprehended after series of robberies in York County

BUXTON — A string of armed robberies across York County led to a dramatic arrest on Wednesday evening, following a week-long manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

The series of events began with a robbery at Main Street Variety in Buxton on June 7, when a male suspect brandishing a handgun demanded cash from the clerk before fleeing in a stolen Silver Nissan Frontier with New Hampshire plates.

Police from Buxton and surrounding areas launched a search for the suspect and vehicle, which was found abandoned on June 10 on a disused railroad track off River Road.

The vehicle, reported stolen from Gorham, was secured for evidence.

The investigation intensified after a bank robbery occurred on June 12 at Gorham Savings Bank in Waterboro.

Authorities identified similarities between this robbery and the earlier incident.

A manhunt ensued with the Buxton Police Department’s K-9 unit finding several key pieces of evidence, including a handgun, in the woods near the last known location of the suspect.

Later that day, a Buxton detective spotted the suspect, Timothy Riley, 41, from Westbrook, while conducting investigations on Plains Road in Hollis.

Riley, along with an accomplice, led police on a chase that ended with a crash on Mary Jane Road.

After a brief on-foot pursuit, Riley was apprehended on the back porch of a nearby residence.

Riley faces charges including two counts of robbery, being a felon in possession of a firearm, eluding officers, and a probation violation.

A second suspect, Kyle Allman, 37, from Hollis, is also implicated in the crimes, with warrants pending for his arrest.

Authorities urge anyone with information on Allman’s whereabouts to contact local police or call 911.
